Bioinformatician/Computational Biologist (f/m/d)

The Cardio-CARE research group at the Medizincampus Davos, Switzerland, is a program of the Kühne Foundation. We are searching for a highly motivated Bioinformatician / Computational Biologist (f/m/d) to join our dynamic bioinformatics team. You will contribute to ambitious, collaborative projects focused primarily on cardiovascular disease research.

Our flagship initiative involves the analysis of 9000 whole genome sequences from the Hamburg City Health Study, conducted in close collaboration with the Department of Cardiology at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE), Germany.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Perform data analysis, integration, and visualization
  • Design and implement novel bioinformatics methods
  • Follow up on hits from genetic association studies
  • Apply methods from genetic epidemiology to WGS data
  • Provide training and support to team members
  • Contribute to the publication of research findings

What you Bring

  • A background in bioinformatics, computational biology, computer science, statistics, or a related field
  • Experience with Linux/Unix environments and high-performance computing (HPC) clusters
  • Proficiency in R, Python, or similar programming languages
  • Practical knowledge of reproducible workflow systems (e.g., NextflowSnakemake) and version control tools
  • Experience analyzing large-scale biological datasets
  • Experience in applying statistical methods from genetic epidemiology
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with a passion for interdisciplinary teamwork
  • Fluency in English; knowledge of German is an advantage
