The Department of Biostatistics is one of the leading biostatistics departments in the United States, with strong collaborative ties across Columbia University and institutions in the New York area. The Stavros Niarchos Foundation Center for Precision Psychiatry is a joint initiative of the Department of Psychiatry at Columbia University and the Zuckerman Mind Brain Behavior Institute. By leveraging interdisciplinary expertise spanning biologists to clinicians, the Center aims to accelerate the translation of discoveries from bench to bedside, enabling novel therapeutic and prevention strategies based on shared etiological mechanisms across distinct patient subgroups.

Duties and Responsibilities: 
The position involves methodological and applied research at the intersection of statistical genomics and psychiatry, under the supervision of Dr. Iuliana Ionita-Laza (Biostatistics) and in collaboration with faculty in the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Center for Precision Psychiatry. The successful candidate will work on developing integrative statistical and machine learning methods for diverse omics data types and clinical phenotype data derived from electronic health records, with applications to psychiatric traits.

 

Position Qualifications: 
Applicants should be highly motivated and have a strong quantitative background, with a PhD in statistics, biostatistics, or computer science, and strong programming skills. Background in genetics is desirable, but not mandatory.
