Postdoctoral/Research Associate Opportunities in Bioinformatics/Statistical Genetics

Postdoctoral and Research Associate positions are now open at the Qatar Computing Research Institute (QCRI) in Doha, Qatar. We are seeking highly-motivated individuals with expertise in bioinformatics, statistical genetics, computational biology or related fields.

Candidates will have the opportunity to work on local population datasets where several types of omic data are available (whole genome and exome sequencing, RNAseq, and metabolomics) complemented by deep phenotyping. Our team is interdisciplinary comprising experts in statistical genetics, bioinformatics, and machine learning. The core of our research is the chronic diseases including – and not limited to – cardiovascular-related traits and diabetes. The vacancies involve methodological and applied research. 

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. (for postdoctoral positions) in computer science, biostatistics, bioinformatics, statistical genetics or other relevant discipline with a strong quantitative research background
  • Solid experience working with large scale genetic data sets (GWAS data, sequencing data, gene expression data)
  • Expertise in machine learning
  • Ability to develop new methods
  • Outstanding programming skills and experience working in a Linux environment (e.g., Python, R, Java, C++, BASH, etc…)
  • Excellent oral and written communication and documentation skills
  • Ability to work autonomously alongside a strong team spirit.
