POSTDOC OPPORTUNITY, GEISINGER HEALTH

JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for conducting research in genetic epidemiology, bioinformatics, quantitative genomics to explore the genetic and epigenetic underpinnings of obesity and related cardiometabolic diseases by leveraging extensive, existing genetic resources linked to phenotypic data derived from longitudinal electronic health records. The successful candidate will assume responsibility for a specific topic of interest within the research program and will have multiple opportunities for career development by assisting in the performance of analyses, drafting of grants, presenting research at national meetings, and drafting of abstracts and papers for the dissemination of research findings.

COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:

  • Demonstrates extensive knowledge base in genetic epidemiology, biostatistics, bioinformatics, quantitative genomics or related field.
  • Demonstrates strong critical thinking skills.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of research methodology and research data collection.
  • Demonstrates expertise in statistical/bioinformatics software relevant to genomic data analysis and integration of a wide-range of data types.

  • Demonstrates competence in written, oral, and electronic communication skills
    (interpersonal/communication and technological effectiveness competencies).

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Ph.D. in epidemiology, statistical genetics, bioinformatics, quantitative genomics, genetics or related field with appropriate bioinformatics/statistical genetics background required.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 1) Previous peer reviewed publications; 2) experience with programming, database management, and analysis software (R, PLINK, Python, SQL, STATA, Linux shell, DNAnexus, etc); 3) Familiar with publicly available data resources (NCBI, Ensembl, ClinVar, UCSC, WGSA, dbGAP, UKBiobank, EXAC, etc.)
